The visual qualities of this artwork focus strongly on symbolic representations. The Halo around the head of the figures in the work is not a realistic approach to the form, however it is symbolic of the religious motifs. The figure to the right is sitting on what seems to a throne. This is symbolic of status, wealth or a high position in the church. The figure to the left has identifiable wings, creating a link to the existence of a supernatural world. The symbolic approach to the art world compared a realistic approach, focused the audiences interpretation of art and creating emotional connections.

Within this artwork, the artist has used intricate detail and heavy focus on the natural tones of the figures. Depicting religious figures realistically was impossible for any artist throughout history therefore the focus fell greatly on symbolism to engage the audience. The focus on facial features was not a major concern as evidence in the artwork suggests the faces of both figures are almost identical. The colours used in the artwork reflect the emotions and the attitude of the people towards the subject matter. These being religious models, the colours blue and green depict status and wealth.

During the Medieval period, there was often many artists contributing to an artwork, discuss why this was.
Medieval Artists were not exposed to as many resources as we are today, therefore it was common for a number of artists to worked together on an artwork. This was seen continuously throughout The Middle Ages and as in their art making, artists were forced to combine their skills and create artworks on large scales. Architectural artworks such as churches and cathedrals required a number of builders and artists to work together combining manual labour and skill to complete the finalised artwork/building.
